Post-Traumatic Stress

Florida Cracker horses are now providing learning and psychotherapy experiences for persons suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which is a potentially debilitating anxiety disorder triggered by exposure to a traumatic experience such as combat, physical or sexual assault, or exposure to a disaster or accident.

A very special part of our PTSD program for military veterans is a Florida Cracker horse named La Nina. This remarkable equine happens to be an amputee, having lost her leg in a traumatic accident. She is also an important part of the equine programs for all persons with disabilities.

In this video clip, La Nina provides comfort and a sense of calmness to these two military veterans diagnosed with PTSD, as Dr. Sandra Wise, a licensed clinical psychologist, comments on the issue of loss and how it affects humans AND horses, specifically, this special Florida Cracker horse named La Nina.
